About Toppik

Manufacturing hair products for more than 40 years, the makers of Toppik work to create cosmetic solution that help to cover up bald patches and reduce the signs of thinning hair. With the ability to make hair look thicker and fuller, it is suitable for both men and women.

Available in a range of colors, Toppik is ideal for anyone who wishes to cover up specific areas of their head, or tidy up an uneven hair line. Ideal for those who would like to see instant results, it gets to work within moments, meaning users don’t need to sit around hoping their hair will grow back within a few months.

Using natural protein Keratin, fibers stick to hair, creating a thicker and fuller look instantly. Easy to apply, and with results that are thought to last all day, Toppik can help users get the look they want, in no time at all.

How does Toppik work?

Toppik works by harnessing the power of keratin and using it to improve the look of thinning or balding hair. Keratin is a completely natural protein, that is actually found on the skin’s external layer.

Using this natural protein, the Keratin works with a static charge, helping it to stick to hair that is already there. The static charge is very mild, and is similar to the charge that balloons give off when you place them near your head.

How easy is it to apply?

Toppik is very easy to apply, users simply need to style their hair as usual, making sure it is completely dry. Once styled as desired, it can be sprayed or simply shaken onto the head.

The next step is to pat your hair gently in order to help the Keratin fibers disperse. Once the fibers are in place, lightly brush, comb, or style in order to achieve the desired look.

Ideal for those who have thinning or balding hair

Caboki is thought to be ideal for those with thinning or balding hair. This is because the Keratin fibers need to stick to hair in order to work effectively. Therefore, those who have been bald a long time may find that it does not work for them.

Many different colors available

Toppik is available in nine different colors, making it more accessible to everyone. The colors that customers can choose from are:

  • Auburn

  • Black

  • Dark brown

  • Gray

  • Light blond

  • Light brown

  • Medium blond

  • Medium brown

  • White

While not everyone will find the available colors perfectly match their hair, there should be very little difference once the fibre has been applied.

Chemical-free

While some treatments contain minoxidil, Toppik does not. This makes it ideal for those who do not wish to apply chemicals to their scalp. Almost identical to human hair, Toppik removes the need for wigs and other pieces.

Strong and ok for use when it’s gently raining or lightly blowing outside, it is thought to be one of the better ones on the market at the time of writing.

Common questions about Toppik

Is it better than Caboki? – While Toppik is thought to be one of the better solutions on the market, it works in a different way to the Caboki product. Some users prefer it to other similar treatments, but ultimately it’s all down to personal preference.

Is it safe after a hair transplant? – This product is thought to be safe to use once any scabs have disappeared, simply because it may get under the scabs and cause irritation. If you are concerned about using Toppik after a hair transplant, please speak to your doctor.

Is it available in stores? – Yes. It is available in many branches of Target across the country. You can also buy Toppik online, direct from the manufacturer, or from other online stores.

Is it noticeable? – If applied correctly, Toppik is not thought to be noticeable, as the fibers work to bind with your hair. However family and friends may notice that you suddenly appear to have more.

Is it dangerous? – Some users have reported experiencing side effects such as: Skin and eye irritation, asthma, nose and throat irritation. Inhalation, and contact with the eyes should be avoided. If you have any concerns, please speak to your doctor.

Other Hair loss treatments

If you’re interested in researching treatments other than hair concealers, we’ve reviewed a number of popular items on the market:

  • DHT Blockers: The hormone DHT is thought to play an important role in contributing to hair loss. And there are a few brands on the market such as the Nuhair DHT blocker. So, do DHT blockers work for hair loss? Find out what our experts have to say in our DHT Blocker review.
  • Topical sprays: Scalp Med is just one of a few remedies on the market which contain ingredients such as Minoxidil and other natural herbs.

Costs

  • Toppik is available to buy direct from the manufacturer, ranging from $7.95 for a travel size, to $79.95 for a giant size.
  • It can also be purchased from Target where prices range from $24.95 for 12 grams, to $29.99 for a starter kit.

What we like about Toppik

  1. Covers up bald patches – Those who have recently started going bald should find that it works well for them, as the Keratin needs to stick to hair in order to work. This product is also suitable for thinning hair.

  2. Ideal for men and women – Both men and women can use Toppik.

  3. Helps to boost confidence – This product not only works to make hair look thicker and fuller, but it can also boost confidence too.

  4. Works within moments – Getting to work within a very short length of time, it can easily become a part of users daily beauty regime.

What we don’t like about Toppik

  1. Not ideal for those who have been bald a long time  This is because it needs to stick to hair in order to remain on the head. If you’re completely bald, you may need to look elsewhere for a solution.
  2. Not ideal for very windy or wet days As with a lot of other remedies, it is not ideal for very windy or wet days. When it comes into contact with water, the product may start to run, and will therefore need to be reapplied.

Consumer reviews

Some consumers who have purchased this product via Amazon have been a little critical saying that:

“…it is pretty difficult…it can be pretty messy (to apply)…”.

“…The fibers don’t stay on when applied…”,

“…It’s just like throwing black powder on your head…”.

Some more positive reviews that can be found on Amazon mention

“…The fibers are a godsend…the rain hasn’t been a problem as long as you don’t get soaked…”.

“…Once you get the application down it looks fantastic and undetectable..”

“…Crazy how well it works, and the difference it makes…”.

There is a real mixture of good an bad reviews, but potential customers should note that approximately 66% of reviews on Amazon are ‘5 star’, meaning more than half of those who purchased this product are satisfied.

Reviews found elsewhere suggest that

“…I think it’s totally worth the money…”

“…It has given him much more confidence, and it looks totally completely natural…it easily wipes off on clothes…”.

The majority of reviews found elsewhere online seem to be positive, whereby customers have given the product 4 or 5 stars.

Does Toppik work?

Created to help those with thinning or balding hair, Toppik seems to have quite a good reputation.

There do seem to be some downsides to using it (You cannot get soaked in the rain without it running off), but for the most part, customers seem to be quite happy.

Toppik is used at the first signs of thinning or balding, then there is real potential for it to work well. Made from Keratin, and easy to use, customers may wish to have a travel bottle with them as they may need to do a few touch-ups from time to time.

Thought to be one of the market leaders when it comes restoration products, Toppik is likely to last most of the day before being washed out in the evening.
